Ask the Experts: Fringes are back with a bang November 19, 2019 00:00
Fringes are back. From Sarah Hylands curtain cut and Sandra Oh’s curly eyebrow-gazers to Sarah Jessica Parker’s wispy side bangs and Rowan Blanchard’s trendy micro fringe, there is no shortage of celebrity fringe inspo.
We asked our fab young talent, Karl Mohring (who is up with all the current trends) to give us his top tips on the fringe factor
THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT
Super short and statement-making – there’s no question the micro fringe packs a real punch for your next ‘do. But longer styles can also transform your hair cut with a fresh new look. The style of your new fringe is key; the right shape and length will accentuate your best features, show off eyes and enhance cheekbones.
Discuss options with your hairdresser to find the perfect shape to suit your face structure. A super short fringe is bold and powerful, a statement style that looks great – if done right. Longer styles are softer and more versatile; perfect for those trying out a fringe for the first time.
Heart face shapes will be beautifully framed by a feathery fringe and rounded edges, whilst oval types can take the sharp, graphic look of a blunt finish. For round face shapes, go super short with your style to elongate features, flawlessly. There’s shape and style to suit everyone.
If you’re nervous about taking off too much length to begin with, start longer and have your hairdresser gradually trim away until you’re happy with the style. After taking the plunge, ask your hairdresser to teach you how to blow dry your new fringe, avoiding OTT volume to keep this style cool and modern.
