Ask the Experts: Do blondes really have more fun? July 7, 2017 17:33

The legend goes that those with glistening golden locks are more likely to pack a punch or two when it comes to having fun.

Sure, we’ve all heard the old saying, “Blondes have more fun!” But do they really? Here are a few reasons why maybe they actually do (or at least why their colour comes with a few perks) and why you may want to get in on all the action, too...

Getting fed up with your current colour? Are you always thinking of changing things up a bit but not sure what shade to choose next? Blonde adds brightness, contrast and energy to your current hair colour.

Blonde hair softens up your facial features (sometimes super dark hair is a bit harsh against the complexion and can wash you out if you don’t choose the right shade for your skin tone).

It’s a youthful colour choice and really great for women with 50% to 100% greys. You’re already half way to blonde, so might as well since it does such a great job of covering greys.

Blondes look like they have more hair! It’s an illusion. Lightening can create the illusion of a fuller more abundant texture.

If you are looking for a totally refreshing change and dramatic transformation, then blonde is the way to go. You’ll have people doing a double-take wondering if it’s really you!

For light- and dark-haired clients alike, overall lightening continues to dominate as today's top hair colour trend. With blonde services accounting for nearly 50% of all salon colour services, the need for a custom range of lightening products has never been greater.

Revolutionising what it means to be blonde, the launch of Redken’s Blonde Idol Professional Hair Colour Collection allows us to achieve customized lightened shades of up to 7 levels, no matter your natural shade

Looking for the perfect shade of blonde hair? From the classic honey and platinum to this year's dark blonde and 'blonde brown', check out these hair colour ideas...

Ombre uplights are a strong hair trend with Jessica Alba and Beyonce both choosing warmer, honey blonde tones. Perfect for darker hair colours, ombre lights add depth and texture, while giving the overall result of caramel blonde hair – without dark root re-growth issues. Don't get too carried away with the highlights though, this year it's about embracing the warmth on your complexion.

For natural blondes, take notes from models Georgia May Jagger, Jessica Hart and Cara Delevingne and opt for softer highlights woven in among darker, more natural tones for a dirty blonde bed head look. Wear it loose, long and with plenty of conditioning treatment to ensure the blonde hair colour stays fresh and glossy.

If it’s notice-me hair colour you’re after, then platinum blonde hair colour is a cool option. Make like Carey Mulligan with her champagne-hued crop and opt for block colour or, for a more varied look, work it into a textured blonde bob hairstyles like Nicole Richie and Jennifer Lawrence.

Still our best blonde has got to be Michelle Williams who, in spite of it seeming as if her hair will fall out if she goes a shade lighter, manages to pull of the brightest blonde pretty much ever.
